যে সমস্ত Auxiliary verbs মূল Verb-এর সাথে যুক্ত হয়ে বিভিন্ন অর্থ প্রকাশ করে তাদের Modal auxiliary verb বলে। Modal Auxiliary-এর সাথে s/es, ing বা ed participles যুক্ত হয় না।
Modal Auxiliary verbs-এর তালিকা :
Can/could, may/might, shall/should, will/would, must, dare , need to, used to, have to, be going to, be to, would rather, had better...
Nagative : Contracted negative :
Can (ক্যান)→ Can not (ক্যান নট)→ Can't (কান্ট)
Could (কুড)→ Could not (কুড নট)→ Couldn't (কুডেন্ট)
May (মে)→ May not (মে নট)
Might (মাইট)→ Might not (মাইট নট)
Shall (শ্যাল)→ Shall not→(শ্যাল নট)
Should (শুড)→ Should not (শুড নট)→ Shouldn't (শুডেন্ট)
Will, 'll (উইল)→ Will not, 'll not (উইল নট)→ Won't (ওন্ট)
Would, 'd (উড)→Would not, 'd not.→(উড নট)→Wouldn't (উডেন্ট)
Must (মাস্ট)→ Must not (মাস্ট নট)
Ought to (আউট টু)→ Ought not to (আউট নট টু)
Used to (ইউজ্ড্ টু)→ Used not to (ইউজ্ড্ নট টু)→ didn't use to (ডিডেন্ট ইউছ টু)
Need (নিড)→ Need not (নিড নট)→ Needn't (নিডেন্ট)
Dare (ডেয়ার)→ Dare not (ডেয়ার নট)→Daren't (ডেয়ারেন্ট)

Note: Modal auxiliary verb-এর ক্ষেত্রে Interrogative sentence-এর সময় do/does/did /am/is/ are/ was/ were কখনো সামনে আসবে না। কিন্তু Need to/ Able to.... ←যেগুলোর সাথে to আছে সেগুলোর ক্ষেত্রে সেগুলোর অর্থের ওপর নির্ভর করে do/does/did /am/is/are/was/were সামনে আনতে হবে।
